Here's a question for Indiana Governor Mike Pence

So, Mike, you and your Republican legislature realized your fondest dream:  Passed a law that allows businesses in Indiana to tell homosexuals to get lost, we don't want your business.

You do know that Jim Nabors -- AKA Gomer Pyle -- is Indiana's favorite son.  After all, he sings "Back Home Again in Indiana" annually to start the Indianapolis 500.

And he is GAY.

Not only is he gay, but he married his MALE partner of 38 years.

So I guess you'll be banning him from the state?

Goddam but you people are stupid.

Oh, and did I mention the annual James Dean Festival in Fairmont, Grant County, Indiana?  You do know Dean was gay -- well, actually, he was bi-sexual.

So -- Ted Cruz's father fought for Castro against Batista? That's what Ted said.

Read this quote from Ted Cruz:

"The dictator, Batista, was corrupt, he was oppressive. And this teenage boy (Cruz's father) joins a revolution. He joins a revolution against Batista, he begins fighting with other teenagers to free Cuba from the dictator. This boy at age 17 finds himself thrown in prison, finds himself tortured, beaten. And then at age 18, he flees Cuba, he comes to America."

So -- Ted Cruz's father joined "the revolution . . . against Batista."  Remind me:  Who was the leader of the "revolution against Batista?"

That would be -- Fidel Castro.

Ted Cruz's father fought with Castro against Batista.  That's what Ted says.

Later on Ted realized what he had said -- after several news outlets reported his claim -- Ted said, well, his father didn't know Castro was a Communist.

Ted Cruz is just like every Teabagger I ever knew -- make up lies, then, when caught lying, make up some more.

Globally, this was the warmest winter on record

Note the only part of the globe that had a cold winter was the Eastern US.  No wonder Senator Jim "Snowball" Inhoffe is confused.

Charles and David Koch

By now you have heard Charles and David Koch have pledged $900,000,000 -- that's $900 million -- to elect Republicans in 2016.

Let's check out where these two come from.

That's right -- Charles and David Koch -- sons of a founder of the John Birch Society, grandsons of a senior Nazi officer, great-grandsons of . . .

Results of GOP 3-year effort to recruit minority voters

Three years ago Republican leaders decided they needed to reach out to women, young people, people of color.  The results are in, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Good job, Republicans!!!  Keep it up!!!!

Rightwing panties all in a knot over -- NOTHING

Conservatives are outraged that First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a celebration of Nowruz, the Persian new year, at the White House — despite the fact that it was the George H.W. Bush White House that introduced the tradition of presidential Nowruz greetings in 1992.

“I think it’s so fitting that we are holding this celebration here today because, one of my favorite things about the White House is how it is truly the people’s house. A house that reflects the diversity of culture and traditions that make us who we are as a country,” the First Lady said. “And Nowruz is one of those traditions.”
Conservatives disagreed, claiming that there were more sinister motivations behind this year’s Nowruz celebration.
“Obama is trying to salvage his failed presidency by cutting whatever deal he can make with Iran,” Breitbart’s editor-at-large John Nolte wrote. “For that reason we get to watch the First Lady pretend she cares about any of this. The Iranians most certainly know it was all for show. But that’s what they appreciate — that fact that Obama is desperate enough to put on this show.”
Downtrend’s Brian Anderson wrote that the celebration was all about optics.
“With her husband desperate to make a sucker deal with Iran to allow the rogue Muslim nation to develop nuclear weapons, First Lady Michelle Obama thought she’d get into the spirit of things by hosting an Iranian New Year celebration at the White House on Wednesday."
These arguments presumably do not apply to the statement made by George W. Bush in 2007 in which he said that “America is strengthened by the rich cultural diversity of our people, and we are blessed to be a Nation that welcomes individuals of all races, religions, and cultural backgrounds. Celebrating Nowruz honors the values of family and tradition and helps preserve the unique fabric that makes up our country.”

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

Here in Virginia, the Speaker of the House of Delegates in our General Assembly is Republican William "Bill" Howell.  All seats in the General Assembly -- House of Delegates and Senate -- are up for re-election in November and Howell is facing a challenge from a dingbat Tea Partier.  Given the fact that another dingbat Teahadists upset long-time Congressman Eric Cantor, Howell can't afford to take this challenge lightly.

Among the measures Howell is taking to try to win re-election is the establishment of a website -- We Know Bill.  On this site he features well-known people as well as ordinary folks who proclaim "I know Bill and he's just wonderful" -- or words to that effect.

Small problem.  If you search for the registration of his website -- that is, search for WHOIS -- you discover that his website is hosted by a company in -- New Zealand!!!  Here's the WHOIS for

Admin Name: On behalf of ADMIN
Admin Organization: c/o Ltd.
Admin Street: Plaza Level,41 Shortland Street
Admin City: Auckland
Admin State/Province:
Admin Postal Code: 1010

Of course, there are lots of other people who know Bill -- for example -- there are several corporations who have Bill in their pocket -- Dominion, Altria (formerly Philip Morris, the cigarette people), Alpha Resources (polluting coal company), Virginia Bankers Association.  Bill also knows the ultrasound -- he supported legislation that would require pregnant women to undergo a medically unnecessary and VERY invasive transvaginal ultrasound.

Yep, we know Bill and he's a real POS.

Is this dried-up old bag still alive??

Is she still alive, or, is this an animated dummy?

Phyllis Schlafly explains why Christians are better than everyone else.

They really are -- better than anyone else at bullshit, lying, molesting children, divorce . . .

Iranians slap the shit out of US Senate Republicans

By now everyone has heard that 47 Republican US Senators wrote a letter to Iran in which they told Iranian leaders that any agreement reached with the Obama administration could be wiped out after the 2016 election.

In the first place, this letter borders on treason -- 47 US senators trying to undermine critical negotiations about Iran's nuclear capabilities.

Within 24 hours, the Iranians responded.  The response was not exactly what the Republicans hoped for.

Asked about the open letter of 47 US Senators to Iranian leaders, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Javad Zarif, responded that “in our view, this letter has no legal value and is mostly a propaganda ploy. It is very interesting that while negotiations are still in progress and while no agreement has been reached, some political pressure groups are so afraid even of the prospect of an agreement that they resort to unconventional methods, unprecedented in diplomatic history. This indicates that like Netanyahu, who considers peace as an existential threat, some are opposed to any agreement, regardless of its content.”
Zarif expressed astonishment that some members of US Congress find it appropriate to write to leaders of another country against their own President and administration. He pointed out that from reading the open letter, it seems that the authors not only do not understand international law, but are not fully cognizant of the nuances of their own Constitution when it comes to presidential powers in the conduct of foreign policy.

So -- the Iranians tell the Republican Senators that they don't understand the US Constitution!!!!

Winter, 2014-2015

The Old Redneck lives in Virginia where we are coming out of a very cold winter with record-breaking snowfall.  It was this snowfall that led Senator James Inhofe (DUMBASS, OK) to bring a snowball onto the Senate floor and declare that, because it was snowing in DC, there is no such thing as global climate change.

What Inhofe and the rest of the idjit climate change deniers don't want you to know is this:  While the East and Northeast were experiencing cold temperatures and snow, the rest of the nation was setting high temperature records with one of the warmest winters on record.

This map shows the departure of average temperature from normal as of early February 2015.  That is, the more red, the warmer that area is than its normal winter temperatures.  Note that the cold winter weather that prompted Sen. Inhofe to put his ignorance on display was confined to a small area of the nation while the rest of the US was setting high winter temp records.

Read the full article for examples of high winter temp records nationwide.

Guess who else had a private email server?

By now everyone has heard or read the tempest in a teacup about Hillary Clinton's use of a private email account.  Turns out:  (1) Her use of private email was not illegal; and, (2) she was not alone.

Read this CNN article about private email servers used by Jeb Bush, Chris Christie,  Rick Perry, Rand Paul,  . . .

Coincidence?? I don't think so.

Check out the maps below.  Let's see:   The states with the most Baptists and Evangelical Protestants are also the states with most poverty, most diabetes, lowest education, and most child abuse deaths.  And, of course, they also are the states where slavery was legal.

Coincidence?  I don't think so.

3 March 2015: Bad day for the GOP . . . very, very bad day

Let's add up just how bad today was for the Republicans.

FIRST.  In the House of Representatives, the Tea Party Faction of Fools was destroyed as the House passed a clean bill to fund the Dept of Homeland Security for a full year.  The bill contained NO mention of President Obama's immigration executive orders -- something the Tea Partiers swore they would fall on their sword over.

SECOND.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Congress and said the same bullshit he delivered several years ago.  52 Democrats boycotted his speech and the US media (except, of course, for Fox) panned him.

THIRD.  All President Obama's immigration executive orders are in place, although they are under stay by a federal court.  That stay will be overturned in a few days and the GOTP will lose again.

FOURTH.  Republican hero and one-time Presidential hopeful General Dave Petreaus pleaded guilty to giving classified documents to his mistress.

Netanyahoo's speech

Funny that the prime minister of the only nation in the Middle East that has nuclear weapons attacks US efforts to limit Iran's access to nuclear weapons.

Scott Walker, GOP presidential hopeful, and his hatred for teachers

By now everyone is aware that Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is in contention for the position as driver of the GOP Presidential Nominee Clown Car.  Speaking before a gathering of radical rightwing reactionaries in Washington DC recently, Walker compared public service unions and their members to ISIS -- in his view, teachers, police officers, firefighters, sanitation workers, anyone who is on the public payroll is equal to the violent murderers who make up ISIS.  Which brings up this point:

Let's call it what is is: A childish temper tantrum

By now we all are familiar with the kabuki theater being played out in the US House of Representatives.

Briefly, here's what's happening:
 (1) President Obama issued a series of executive orders allowing certain groups of undocumented aliens to remain in the country provided they meet certain stringent requirements.
 (2) The Republicans attacked his common-sense orders as both tyrannical executive overreach and an "amnesty for illegal aliens."
 (3)  Texas Republicans shopped around until they found a radical rightwing federal judge who stayed the implementation of the President's executive order.
(4) Now, a small group of hard-core rightwing radial Republican Tea Partiers in the House insist the Congress pass legislation that strips funding from the Dept or Homeland Security unless the President withdraws his immigration executive orders.  While the Senate has passed a bill to fund DHS for another year, recalcitrant GOP assholes in the House refuse to fund DHS.

Let's call this what it is:  It's not governing, it's a childish temper tantrum.  Just like the die-hard slave owners in the South 150 years ago, these mouth-breathing Tea Partiers are stamping their feet and holding their breath until their faces turn blue.  Before doing the right thing, they will burn down the place, all in service to their own narrow worldview.

Prominent climate change denier is on the payroll of the oil and gas industry -- no surprise here.

A prominent academic and climate change denier’s work was funded almost entirely by the energy industry, receiving more than $1.2m from companies, lobby groups and oil billionaires over more than a decade, newly released documents show.

Over the last 14 years Willie Soon, a researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics, received a total of $1.25m from Exxon Mobil, Southern Company, the American Petroleum Institute (API) and a foundation run by the ultra-conservative Koch brothers, the documents obtained by Greenpeace through freedom of information filings show.
According to the documents, the biggest single funder was Southern Company, one of the country’s biggest electricity providers that relies heavily on coal.
