"Conservatives" burning down black churches in response to removal of Confederate flag

Washington Post reporting as of 28 June:

In the week after nine people were shot dead at Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina, five churches with predominantly black congregations in five Southern states burned. Three of the fires were being investigated as arson.

On the night of 30 June - 1 July, yet another fire is raging in a black church.  Twenty years ago, the KKK burned this church.  Looks as though they are at it again.

The Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greeleyville, South Carolina is in the process of burning to the ground.

Rightwingers, Tea Partiers, Republicans, biblethumpers foaming at the mouth, chasing their tales, biting tires, raging, howling at the moon!!!!

Here it is, folks -- the rightwingnuts at their finest.

Todd Starnes says pastors who refuse to perform same-gender marriages will be charged with hate crimes.

Glenn Beck says FCC will shut down his radio program if he denounces gay marriage.

Gay marriage is slavery, the "end times," will bring God's wrath on the USA.

Franklin Graham: Because of gay marriage, we must prepare for God's judgment on America and the "end times" -- and send me some money.

Flee America before God destroys us because of gay marriage.

Sarah Palin's daughter, the Born Again Virgin Bristol Palin, is knocked up. Unmarried. Again.

As we all know, rightwingers are in love with Sarah Palin and her white trash family, holding them up as models of Real Americans and Christian Family Values.

Well, here's a news flash for you boneheads:  Sarah Palin's oldest daughter, 24-year-old Bristol has just announced that SHE IS KNOCKED UP!!!  AGAIN!!!

Never married.  A 6-yr-old and now another one on the way.

Here are the details.

She has announced that the baby's daddy is former US Marine and Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer.

I guess that's what comes from crossing your eyes - - -

- - - instead of crossing your legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When will rightwingnutcases stop killing Americans? They are much worse than "Muslim terrorists"

Remember back in 2009 when the Department of Homeland Security published a study warning about the danger from homegrown, domestic terrorists?  Remember how Republicans, Teabaggers and other rightwingnuts raved and foamed at the mouth to the point where DHS was told by Congress to not release the study?

Remember that?  I hope you assholes are happy.

WASHINGTON — In the 14 years since Al Qaeda carried out attacks on New York and the Pentagon, extremists have regularly executed smaller lethal assaults in the United States, explaining their motives in online manifestoes or social media rants.

But the breakdown of extremist ideologies behind those attacks may come as a surprise. Since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly twice as many people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims: 48 have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim, compared with 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists, according to a count by New America, a Washington research center.

The slaying of nine African-Americans in a Charleston, S.C., church last week, with an avowed white supremacist charged with their murders, was a particularly savage case. But it is only the latest in a string of lethal attacks by people espousing racial hatred, hostility to government and theories such as those of the “sovereign citizen” movement, which denies the legitimacy of most statutory law. The assaults have taken the lives of police officers, members of racial or religious minorities and random civilians.

What happened??

Once upon a time in America, these people were the Conservatives.

Today, when we think of conservatives, this is what we get.

What happened????

Today's news digest: CONFIRMED: Fox promotes racism; conservatives deny that white men are terrorists

23 June 2015

How "Fox and Friends" became the most vile, repugnant show on TV.

An unexpected side-effect of the heart-wrenching gun massacre in Charleston is that the coverage on “Fox & Friends” has managed to reach all new depths of hideousness, even for the typically horrendous Fox News Channel. It’s a high-water mark (or low-water mark) in what appears to be a ramping up of the awfulness on that far-right morning zoo. Indeed, ‘Fox & Friends” could very well be the newly crowned most vile show on that network, recently outpacing the other contenders from the rogues gallery: O’Reilly, Hannity and “The Five.”

The alarming statiscal relationship underlying conservatives' TV viewing habits and racism.

Fox News has for years come under criticism for its racially-charged coverage. Just recently, in January of last year, Isaac Chotiner wrote that Fox News creates segments “meant to scare its white audience into believing that African Americans, or Muslims, are out to get them.” Meanwhile, Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow have both criticized Fox News’s coverage of the Ferguson murder last year.

New data suggests that their criticisms may be correct.

Using 2012 American National Election Studies data to test whether Fox News viewers have distinct racial attitudes, it can be demonstrated that, indeed, these viewers are more likely to reject the reality of structural racism and to endorse negative stereotypes of Black people.

Whitewashing terrorism:  Republicans, Tea Partiers, rightwingers have strict rules for defining terrorism -- unless the terrorist is an American white male, then, all is forgiven.

The Republican Party has a clear philosophy on fighting terrorism. First, we must prioritize the fight. Second, we must challenge the teachings that motivate terror. Third, we must confront separatists who promote these ideas in our own country. Fourth, we must monitor networks that fund radicalization and violence.

Unless, of course, the terrorism is committed by white nationalists. In that case, the rules don’t apply.

Virginia's Tea Parties claim to represent Real American Values.  They argue that we have lost many of our rights as citizens.  AT THE SAME TIME, Virginia's Tea Parties -- including the 99th District Tea Party -- are doing their best to take away from their own people the right to decide on their elected officials.  WHY DOES THE 99TH DISTRICT TEA PARTY PREFER RULE BY A SMALL, SECRETIVE GROUP?  DOES THE 99DTP NOT TRUST THEIR OWN PEOPLE?

State Republican leaders will decide Saturday how many of Virginia's party faithful can help pick the 2016 GOP presidential nominee.
Gathering at a hotel in Staunton, members of the party's Central Committee are expected to choose between an April 2016 convention, limited to delegates who attend, or a March 1 primary open to all voters.
Those favoring a convention, including many in the Tea Party wing, see it as a way to keep tighter control of the selection and to raise significant cash for the state organization. Those wanting a primary argue that the ballot gives a truer picture of what Republicans want and helps build a voter database for the general election.

Let's give credit where credit is due: The Confederate flag is coming down from the SC state capitol grounds!!!

Following the Charleston, SC, church shooting, voices across the nation began to demand the Confederate flag be removed from the grounds of the SC state capitol.  And now, some Republican heavyweights have added their voices to the call to remove the flag.

The author of this blog has been giving Republicans hell for their refusal to call the shootings racially-motivated.

Now that prominent Republicans are calling for the removal of the flag, it's time to give them credit for taking a step that likely will lose them votes from some of the loons in the GOP "base."

Senator Lindsey Graham (R, SC) to call for the Confederate flag to come down.
South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham will call Monday for the removal of the confederate flag from state grounds, a source familiar with the decision told CNN.
Graham, a 2016 presidential candidate, will make his announcement during a press conference with South Carolina's Republican governor, Nikki Haley, at 4 p.m. Monday.

Jeb!  says the Confederate flag needs to come down.

JUST IN: @JebBush believes the Confederate Flag should be taken down at South Carolina Capitol, his camp tells @ABC

SC Governor Nikki Haley to hold press conference at 4:00 PM today with Senator Lindsey Graham; she is expected to call for the flag to come down.

COLUMBIA, SC - Gov. Nikki Haley plans a news conference Monday afternoon amid growing speculation that South Carolina leaders are ready to call for removing the Confederate flag from the State House grounds.
Haley, a Lexington Republican, is meeting with state political leaders Monday ahead of her 4 p.m. news conference. The office of House Speaker Jay Lucas, R-Darlington, confirmed he is meeting with Haley at 1 p.m.

State Rep. James Smith, D-Richland, said Monday lawmakers have been on the phone in recent days talking about the Confederate flag.
Smith said there is a “growing consensus among lawmakers – House, Senate, Republicans and Democrats” – to resolve the flag issue before the next legislative session begins.
Smith said lawmakers have the ability vote on removing the flag this summer by amending a resolution that has allowed them to continue working after the regular session ended in early June.
It's a shame that it took over a century and the deaths of God-only-knows how many people -- mostly black, some white -- to get the flag down.  Now it's coming down.  May take time because the SC legislature must act.  Still, this is a welcome first step and I congratulate these prominent Republicans for stepping out bravely.

In Mississippi:

Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn said Monday night that the Confederate emblem in the state's official flag has to go.

"We must always remember our past, but that does not mean we must let it define us," Gunn, a Clinton Republican, said in a statement. "As a Christian, I believe our state's flag has become a point of offense that needs to be removed. We need to begin having conversations about changing Mississippi's flag."
(CNN)Walmart, the country's largest retailer, will remove all Confederate flag merchandise from its stores, the company told CNN Monday.
This is a critical moment in American history.  Watch and listen carefully.

Thoughts on the US Open golf tournament: KWITCHERBITCHIN'

The Old Redneck, the author of this blog, is a very amateur golfer.  I took up the game when I was on active duty (Army) in Japan in the late 1980's.  I have an 11 handicap and a set of clubs that's  over 20 years old.

My brother was a senior engineer with Bechtel (he retired recently) and back in 2000 he scored passes that allowed us to play a round at Augusta, home of the Master's Tournament.  I shot 78 at Augusta.  With my handicap, that's the equivalent of shooting a 67 at Augusta.  Augusta is an easy golf course -- wide, smooth fairways; 1st cut, 2nd cut, then rough; manicured greens that are like putting on carpet.

The Chambers Bay course at which the just-concluded US Open was played is a TOUGH course -- fescue greens that are like putting on a gravel driveway; slopes and valleys that will eat your ball; fairways bordered by rough; bunkers that eat golf balls.

Every single player in the US Open pissed and moaned about how difficult the course was.  The pro golfers whom we see in these major tournaments are millionaires -- some of them millionaires many times over.  They fly around in private Gulfstream IV's; they entertain guests on their $20 million yachts.  At the courses, they live in private homes, reserved for them, that are mansions.  And these guys piss and moan because the course makes them work for a living??????  STFU and hit the ball!!!!!

We need MORE courses like Chambers Bay -- make these spoiled brats earn their pay like the rest of us.

Want to see the REAL Confederate flag? Here it is

Remember this??

Republicans and the Tea Party still love him.  And believe him.

Let's review the rightwing response to the Charlotte church murders

Rick Perry:  Charlotte church shootings were an "accident" caused by drugs and being manipulated by Obama to ban guns.

E. W. Jackson (phony preacher and former candidate for Virginia Lt Governor):  The Charlotte shootings were cause by gays and Obama.

Anything but race.  Meet the rightwing liars who make excuses for the Charlotte murderer.

Gun Owners of America:  Murdered Charlotte pastor brought it on himself by voting against bill to allow guns in churches.

Sandy Rios of the American Family Association:  "Obama enjoyed the Charlotte murders."

Sorry, I can't enter anymore -- I'm about to puke.

No other way to say it: The rightwing response to the Charlotte murders is disgusting. But not unexpected.

The following article is quoted from this link.  I couldn't say it better myself.

So here we are on the third day after this horrific shooting and both sides of the political spectrum are firmly entrenched in their positions.

On the Left there are calls for more gun control and a serious discussion about racism in this country, and on the Right there are calls for arming pastors, and an aggressive attempt to deflect any blame for the violence from one who is clearly on their side of the ideological fence.

Here are some responses from those Republicans who claim to want to lead this country.

Chris Christie:

“Laws can’t change this.”

“This type of conduct is something that only our display of our own love and good faith that’s in our heart can change,” he said.

That of course it completely untrue.  As can be proven by looking at the example set by Australia.

Jeb Bush (Same article):

“But I do know what was in the heart of the victims,” Bush said. “They were meeting in brotherhood and sisterhood in that church. … They were praying. They were learning and studying the word of the Lord, to find grace in his kingdom, to fill his house with love.”

Actually we DO know what was in the shooter's heart. Hatred for black people:

"You all rape women and you're taking over our country."

Not only that but like all sociopaths it appears he has written a manifesto, which comes complete with pictures, angry rants, and tons of racism:

Couldn't be much clearer than that.

Here is what Mike Huckabee, a Christian pastor himself, had to say:

“All the proposals this president and others have put forward on gun control would not have stopped this shooting anymore than it would have stopped Sandy Hook,” Huckabee said. “The one thing that would have at least ameliorated the horrible situation in Charleston would have been that if somebody in that prayer meeting had a conceal carry or there had been either an off duty policeman or an on duty policemen, somebody with the legal authority to carry a firearm and could have stopped the shooter.”

In other words we can do nothing to keep ourselves safe except prepare ourselves to return gunfire if fired upon.

Which unsurprisingly is essentially the opinion of Charles Cotton, a board member for the NRA:

Cotton, who did not return a message left at his Houston-area law firm, pointed out on a Texas gun forum that Pinckney was a state senator who had voted against a law allowing gun owners to carry concealed weapons without permits.

“Eight of his church members who might be alive if he had expressly allowed members to carry handguns in church are dead,” Cotton wrote. “Innocent people died because of his position on a political issue.”

So apparently these people deserved to die because they were not  prepared to take a life in a place where they felt safe and were learning about love and compassion. Good to know.

No in the Right Wing bubble all gun violence is the result of mental illness, ill prepared victims, or radical Islamist terrorists from who the President is failing to protecting us.

However about that mental illness thing:

We do have statistics showing that the vast majority of people who commit acts of violence do not have a diagnosis of mental illness and, conversely, people who have mental illness are far more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators.

(As somebody who works with the mentally ill, I can concur that most of what we do is to protect them from others, not protect others from them.)

Personally I think that this recent Rolling Stone article really hit the nail on the head:

The fact is, this is political because American movement conservatism has already made these kinds of killings political. The Republican Party has weaponized its supporters, made violence a virtue and, with almost every pronouncement for 50 years, given them an enemy politicized, racialized and indivisible. We can't afford to allow political discussions of these events, because if we do, we might notice what's already there, wracking the body politic like gangrene.

Movement conservatives have fetishized a tendentious and ahistorical reading of the Second Amendment to the point that the Constitution itself somehow paradoxically "legitimizes" an armed insurrection against the government created by it. Those leading said insurrection are swaddled by the blanket exculpation of patriotism. At the same time, they have synonymized the Democratic Party with illegitimacy and abuse of the American order. This is no longer an argument about whether one party's beliefs are beneficial or harmful, but an attitude that labels leftism so antithetical to the American idea that empowering it on any level is an act of usurpation. Leftism no longer constitutes a debatable misuse of American power, but theft and governmental overreach.

In other words as the Right Wing sees their power diminishing as a more diverse population begins to outnumber their base, they start to talk about "protecting our rights," "2nd Amendment solutions," and "retaking our country," and ALL of that is the kind of rhetoric that leads to people being shot to death in their own house of worship.

What could have been done to protect these nine people in South Carolina?

Well making it much, much harder to get a gun would be a nice start, but also making people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Sarah Palin shut the fuck up would certainly make a vast difference as well.

Which of course is why Bill O'Reilly became so defensive when a guest made a similar point:

“You’re equating what Dylann Roof did in that church to our commentary?” he asked. “Are you saying that Fox News justifies brutal crimes against black Americans?”

Yes, yes I am.

MIami Herald columnist says Charlotte shooter "doesn't look white." Watch for the rightwing to pick up on this bullshit and repeat it.

Check out this article.

Miami Herald Columnist A.J. Delgado tweeted that the evil, racist SOB who killed nine innocent people in Charlotte doesn't look like a white male to her.

Just watch -- the rightwing assholes will pick up on this and continue to make their excuses.

Republicans making excuses for the Charlotte church shooter. I'm not surprised. That's the way they are.

A few days ago, a 21-year-old white man walked into a black church in Charlotte, NC, participated for a few minutes in a Bible study, then, pulled out a pistol (purchased for him by his parents; he could not buy a gun because of his previous arrest record) and he murdered nine people.  He told one woman he would not kill her because he wanted to leave survivor to tell the story. He also told this women that he wanted to kill black people because "you rape our women, you are taking over our country, and you must be stopped."

Here's the reaction to that evil, hate-filled crime by REPUBLICANS, TEA PARTY FAVORITES, AND RIGHTWINGERS IN GENERAL.

A member of the NRA Board of Directors blamed the pastor of the church for the shooting.

Jeb! said he doesn't know if the crime was racially-motivated.

Lindsey Graham said the Confederate flag that if permanently affixed to a staff at the SC state capitol is "part of who we are."

Whenever a white man commits a mass shooting, he is mentally ill, he's a lone wolf.  When a black man kills one person, he's a thug, a fatherless criminal who was raised by a single mother on food stamps.  And the black guy rarely survives to stand trial.

A history of rightwing, Tea Party, and Republican support for the Confederate flag.

Mike Huckabee -- another Tea Party favorite who is unfit for public office -- says more guns would have stopped the carnage.

And -- for everyone's information:  The author of this blog was born and reared in Wilkinson County, Mississippi.  Next to the Mississippi Delta, Wilkinson County is the most Southern place on earth.  I count over 25 Confederate soldiers in my ancestry, including one Confederate brigadier general.   My great-great-grandfather and his extended family owned almost 300 slaves -- I have the plantation records from their cotton and sugar cane plantations.  I do not own a Confederate flag, have never owned a Confederate flag, and I believe anyone who owns or displays a Confederate flag is ignorant and evil.

America's rightwingers pulled the trigger in Charleston. Are you listening Fox? Tea Party? Republicans?

For many years in Ireland the Rev. Ian Paisley spouted bigoted hatred about Catholics in Northern Ireland, but then claimed innocence when some militant sectarian group massacred Catholics. Speech was not murder, he said. He would never condone killing, he said. Then he went right back to feeding the attitudes that spawned the killing. Few were fooled.
We should not be fooled in America today.

In this country the "mainstream" right-wing has made an industry of demonizing African-Americans as "thugs" and criminals - just look at the divergence in tone between the recent coverage of Ferguson or Baltimore and the (mostly white) biker massacre in Waco, TX. For decades, white America has been told that black Americans are lazy leeches, dependent on hand-outs funded by your hard-earned taxes to bankroll their immoral lifestyles.

The first black president was greeted by the right not only with diehard obstructionism but a chorus of color-coded abuse ("lazy," "food-stamp president," etc.) and questions about his very American-ness: he was "not one of us," a foreigner adhering to a foreign religion who has no right to be president -- all lies.

The siren song of racial hate relentlessly put out by the "mainstream" right finds echo in the gunshots that rang out in Charleston.

Rightists will, of course, deny the connection, the way Paisley did. But the rest of us are not fooled.

They say "We'll never understand." Well, actually, the problem is they DON'T WANT TO UNDERSTAND.

Don't try to tell me these "open carry" idiots are harmless

An Iowa mall cop — with a Facebook account loaded with open-carry and right-wing memes and photos of multiple weapons — is under arrest for shooting and killing a fellow mall worker because she filed sexual harassment complaints against him.

According to The Gazette, Alex Kozak was taken into custody after shooting 20-year-old Andrea Farrington three times in the back while she was at work at the Iowa Children’s Museum in the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, Iowa.

Police say that the 22-year-old Kozak left the mall and went to his home and retrieved a 9mm Glock handgun before retuning and shooting Farrington late Friday night..

KCJJ reports that a cousin of Farrington’s said that Kozak had been harassing the victim for at least six weeks and that she had complained to his superiors about unwanted advances he had made toward her.

“They both worked at the Coral Ridge Mall and knew each other through the Coral Ridge Mall,” Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness said. Kozak had worked at the mall since 2014.

After shooting Farrington, Kozak fled the mall in his car but was later pulled over without incident.
Kozak — who is currently being held on $10 million bail — is married to Kellie Kozak, who recently posted pictures on her Facebook page of a visit to Costco where her husband can be seen carrying a sidearm. According to his father-in-law, Kozak didn’t always carry a weapon, saying, “If circumstances were that it’d be best not to have a weapon present, he didn’t have a problem with that.”

NRA's worst nightmare: The gun study they don't want you to know about

This is the NRA’s worst nightmare: The new gun safety study that gun nuts don’t want you to hear about.

A law requiring people to apply for a permit before buying a handgun helped Connecticut quietly reduce its firearm-related homicide rate by 40 percent, according to a new study out from Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research. And this week, announced in conjunction with the research, lawmakers from Connecticut introduced a measure to encourage other states to adopt their own permit programs.

Connecticut’s “permit to purchase” law, in effect for two decades, requires residents to undergo background checks, complete a safety course and apply in-person for a permit before they can buy a handgun. The law applies to both private sellers and licensed gun dealers.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins reviewed the homicide rate in the 10 years before the law was implemented and compared it to longitudinal estimates of what the rate would have been had the law not be enacted. The study found a 40 percent reduction in gun-related homicides. Bolstering what researchers say is the correlation between the permit law and the drop in gun homicides, there wasn’t a similar drop in non-firearm homicides.

The relationship between tighter regulations around handguns and fewer gun-related homicides is in keeping with previous research out of Johns Hopkins on what happened after Missouri repealed its own permit law.

It's about the gunnut in Dallas who attacked the police station

As Dallas police deal with a heavily-armed man who shot up the main police station then led the cops on a chase that ended in a 4-hour-long standoff, Texas Governor Terry Abbot signs an "open-carry" bill, allowing anyone in Texas to carry a loaded firearm anywhere.

Can anyone here spell IGNORANTMUTHAHFUKAH????

Rightwingers, Tea Party finally admit it: GWBush fucked up in Iraq big time.

Follow this chain of events.

The Bush administration was steadily moving to attack Iraq.  GWBush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Powell -- all were beating the drum, citing "evidence" of Iraq's (mythical) WMD, support for terrorism, and other bullshit.

Up to the microphone stepped Army Chief of Staff General Eric Shinseki.  When asked by a Congressional committee what a war in Iraq would require in terms of time and troops, Shinseki replied "several hundred thousand troops and at least a decade."

He was immediately attacked -- in public -- by Paul Wolfowitz who said Shinseki was "wildly off the mark."  Shinseki then "retired" -- he was fired -- and replaced by a Bush administration yes-man.

As we all know, the war dragged on and on and on.  General Dave Petreaus foisted on us the phony "surge," which was nothing but an infusion of US troops that forced the opposition to hide out until we declared victory and left.

Enter President Obama who said "Enough of this shit."  He ended the US troop commitment to Iraq and pulled out all but a few advisers and special operations troops.

Now, "ISIS" is running rampant, seizing huge parts of Iraq.  Now, we discover the ISIS leadership in Iraq consists largely of former Iraqi military officers who were thrown out by the US conquerors.

And now, the rightwing, including Tea Partiers, are demanding more US troops go back to Iraq to wrest the country back from ISIS.  WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT ERIC SHINSEKI SAID WE NEEDED -- SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND TROOPS AND A DECADE OR MORE.

Thank you, rightwing and Tea Party, for showing us just how fucked up and wrong GWBush and his band of jackasses really were -- and still are.

Let's see if I understand this

Two convicted murderers escaped from prison in New York.  They used power tools to cut through the steel walls of their cell, then, used power tools to cut into big steel pipes through which they crawled to freedom.

And no one in the prison heard the sound of power tools cutting through steel.

Is that about the size of it?

Are Christians under attack in the US? Have you seen all those videos of cops shooting unarmed clergymen?

Here's my favorite line from this video:

"Bill O'Reilly says 'If you're a Christian or a white man in the USA, it's open season on you.' Yes that explains all of those recent videos of police shooting unarmed white clergymen."

American Christians, a group of people who believe that simply asking them critical questions about their faith, or suggesting that their holy book is not factual, is on par with the Holocaust.

Bad news just keeps piling up for Rush Limbaugh

The bad news just keeps coming for conservative talker Rush Limbaugh.

Which bulletin was worse, though? The news in April that he was being dropped by WIBC in Indianapolis, a booming talk powerhouse that played home to Limbaugh's radio show for more than two decades, or the news this week that the talker's new address on the Indianapolis dial is going to be WNDE, a ratings doormat AM sports station that has so few listeners it trails the commercial-free classical music outlet in town?

The humbling, red-state tumble is just the latest setback for the conservative talker who has seen his once-golden career suffer a steady series of losses recently.

Divorced from successful, longtime affiliates in places like New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Indianapolis, Limbaugh's professional trajectory is heading downward. That's confirmed by the second and third-tier stations he now calls home in those important media markets, and the fact that when his show became available, general managers up and down the dial passed on it. Apparently turned off by the show's hefty price tag, sagging ratings, and disappearing advertisers, Limbaugh continues to be a very hard sell.

It's a precipitous fall from the glory days when the host posted huge ratings numbers, had affiliates clamoring to join his network, and dictated Republican politics. All of that seems increasingly distant now. With his comically inflated, $50 million-a-year syndication deal set to expire next year, Limbaugh's future seems uncertain. "Who would even want someone whose audience is aging and is considered toxic to many advertisers," asked RadioInsight last month.

PROOF: Louisiana state legislature is the nation's dumbest.

Louisiana not only is blessed with Piyush Jindal, the nation's dumbest governor, but now we learn they have the dumbest state legislature in the nation.
In a 7-2 vote, the Louisiana Senate’s Committee on Revenue and Fiscal Affairs decided that for a three-day weekend at the beginning of September the state would eliminate its sales tax on firearms, ammunition, knives and ATVs.

But during the same meeting it decided not to have a similar tax break for school supplies purchases at the end of the summer, or hurricane safety tools for next year’s hurricane season.

So -- no sales tax on firearms, ammo, and other weapons but you must pay sales tax on school and hurricane supplies.  And here I thought my native Mississippi was at the bottom.  Thank God for Louisiana!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dick Cheney discusses invading Iraq, 1994, advises "don't do it."

Dick Cheney on why the US shouldn’t invade Iraq (1994):

“If you take down the central gov’t…you could… see… pieces of Iraq fly off. . . ”

Here's the full quote:

“Because if we had gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone. There wouldn’t have been anybody else with us. It would have been a U.S. occupation of Iraq. None of the Arab forces that were willing to fight with us in Kuwait were willing to invade Iraq. Once you got to Iraq and took it over and took down Saddam Hussein’s government, then what are you going to put in its place? That’s a very volatile part of the world. And if you take down the central government in Iraq, you could easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off. Part of it the Syrians would like to have, the west. Part of eastern Iraq the Iranians would like to claim. Fought over for eight years. In the north, you’ve got the Kurds. And if the Kurds spin loose and join with Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey. It’s a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq.”
