Virginia State Police arrest peaceful woman, let murderes, thugs, criminals go on about their business

On Sunday, 30 August, a peaceful protester (mother of two) on a sidewalk outside the C&E Gun Shows, Inc. gun show in Roanoke, Virginia was handcuffed by Virginia State Police.

Meanwhile, inside, guys were selling guns to each other through private sales, no background check required, cash and carry. And law enforcement didn't so much as ask them--or their buyers--any questions -- such as "Are you selling guns to convicted felons?  Are you selling guns to mental cases?"

Also note the Nazi and Confederate paraphernalia.

Lovely. Must be those "good guys with guns" again

Meanwhile, there's this:

Message to Kentucky County Clerk who seeks to impose her values on everyone else: "Do your job!!"

A gay dad who runs a parenting resource center for LGBT families wrote a scathing letter to Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refuses to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples — in spite of multiple court orders.

Writing at Huffington Post, The Next Family’s Rob Watson said, “As a gay dad, Ms. Davis’s behavior bothers me on multiple levels. I look at the messages not just to me, but to my kids and their counterparts in LGBT families across the nation.”

“Her treatment of two prospective families is humiliating and demeaning,” Watson continued. “Kids who are in LGBT families, and kids who are LGBT themselves should not be sent this message that a government official would rather they simply not exist.”

Furthermore, he said, he has concerns about Ms. Davis’ behavior.

“I am teaching my kids principles of responsibility and citizenship,” wrote Watson. “Ms. Davis violates that principle at every turn.”

He went on to write to Davis, “I understand that you are angry that the fight for marriage equality did not go the way you had hoped. While I am pretty sure I will not be able to persuade you into liking the decision, as a public servant, I do expect you to respect it.”

“Your demand that the terms of your job adhere to your own standards rather than the objective standards of law reminds me of how my 12-year old son would like rules applied,” he said. “He would like for his brother, who is 13, and him to be able to go to the local pool unattended. The pool’s rule for unattended kids is 14 and older. Jesse applies his logic this way: “Dad. If you add both Jason’s and my ages, together we are 25. That’s the same thing.” (Imagine them trying that logic at the local dance bar.)”

“His logic and the rules are not the same thing. Neither is your desire and the rule you want to break on behalf of ‘your beliefs,’” said Watson, who has four children.
“In those situations, he, like you, will want to only do what he wants, when he wants. It has taken many discussions and his growing maturity to understand that by being part of a team, a village, a country and by agreeing up front to the terms of engagement, he does not get to violate rules just because he wants to,” he explained.

“It is a lesson I wish you, too, would learn,” he said.

He went on to explain to Davis that the Liberty Counsel — the right-wing law firm dedicated to defending theocratic law in U.S. courts — does not have Davis’ best interests at heart when they urge her to flout the law and risk fines and imprisonment.

“Liberty Counsel seeks to attract emotionally charged hate money from those wanting to harm all gay families, from those who would wish to criminalize homosexuality, from those who see gay marriage and abortion with equal passion. Just because they have rallied to your cause, they are not your friends either however. What they are doing to you is worse than what they will actually be able to affect towards LGBT families,” he said.

“Your ‘friends,'” Watson continued, “who themselves will reap millions, are telling you to hang out until the end where you will be potentially unemployed, and perceived globally as a selfish intolerant hypocrite who was cruel to her neighbors.”

He urged Davis to “do your job, respect the people making their own life choices, and trust the God you profess to believe in that love will prevail in the end.”

Read the full letter here.

ALSO -- Kim Davis -- the county clerk who refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples -- believes so much in the sanctity of marriage that she is on her FOURTH marriage.  Her father was the county clerk before her and she has given her son a job in the office in anticipation of him succeeding her.

UPDATE:  Turns out Kim Davis was married, filed for divorce while pregnant. She married husband #2 then discovered the father of her twins was husband #3, a guy she was screwing while still married to husband #2.   .So husband #2 was jettisoned for the father of her babies #3.

And she's talking to the rest of us about the sanctity of marriage?

Why I am not in the least bit worried about "Muslim terrorists:"

NO, I'm not in the least bit concerned about "Muslim terrorists," ISIS, or any other figment of the rightwing.  What I AM worried about is the tattooed, shaved-head, meth head Tea Partier who lives down the road from me and who carries a pistol on his hip.

This is pure evil masquerading as "Christianity"

Almost daily, the news bears a story about sexual forays of “family values” activist and former reality TV star Josh Duggar. But standing silently by his side and gazing at him in adoration is his oft-forgotten wife, Anna.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Josh Duggar entered a treatment facility while on Tuesday, the couple was apparently hiding out with their small children in an Arkansas mountain home. It’s unclear whether Anna has been left alone after news of her husband’s infidelity broke.

Citing an unnamed source, People Magazine implies that divorce is unlikely, because Anna, whose maiden name is Keller, was raised by a Christian family “more extreme” than the Duggars. She is one of eight siblings.

“Anna and her siblings were always taught that if you follow these 10 steps or whatever, God would bless you,” the source told People.

Anna reportedly met Josh at a homeschooling convention in 2006, when she was still a teenager. But her family structure was so stringent, she wouldn’t have been allowed to gossip about her love interest with her siblings. The children were not allowed to talk about their feelings among themselves, People reports.

“They always got 15-minute, one-on-one sessions with their mom every week. That was the time to share their feelings, but other than that they had to keep their feelings to themselves,” the source told the gossip magazine.

Once full of spunk, the source said Anna has become isolated and soft-spoken since marrying into the Duggar family.

In May, In Touch Weekly revealed Josh had molested five underage girls, including his sisters. This month, Gawker revealed he had two paid accounts with Ashley Madison, a website created for the purpose of infidelity. This week, porn actress Danica Dillon claimed Duggar had paid her for sex while Anna was pregnant.

The Duggar family had actively campaigned against LGBT rights while promoting the idea that the “traditional family values” they lived by were morally superior.

Anna’s brother, Daniel Keller, has blasted Duggar and offered to go get his sister and let her stay with him with her children. She has not publicly responded to his offer.

Here are a few comments:
  • Josh was screwing around with a porn actress.  Anna best get herself tested for sexually-transmitted diseases.  Of course, it's unlikely she will -- the Duggars will just pray away the STD's Josh brought home.
  • I give Anna 5 years at which point she will either (a) take a butcher knife to Josh in his sleep, or, (b) swallow a huge bottle of pills and take herself out.
MEANWHILE -- all Josh needs is a little more prayer.

Just need a little more Jesus that's all.
 Gawker has the goods:

Earlier today, the Duggar family confirmed that Josh has been locked away in a “long-term treatment center,” ostensibly for his self-described porn and sex addiction. And the most likely candidate by far is the Christian-based, North Love Baptist Church-affiliated Reformers Unanimous recovery center.

A place that’s little more than a glorified, bible-based labor camp. Should this indeed be Josh’s home for the coming months, he just paid $7,500 to study the Bible and work for free for the next six months. Not at all unlike the time he spent at the facility that supposedly “cured” him of the perversions that caused him to molest five young girls in his teens.

(At the bottom of the post Gawker was able to affirm that this was indeed where Josh was headed.)

Gawker located this rather troubling introduction to the program from Benjamin Burks, the programs "International Director."

If you skip to the 6:50 mark you will see a guy in a lab coat, claiming to be a doctor, who craps all over the medical profession and says this:

In my medical opinion Reformers Unanimous has been so successful because it deals with the core of the problem in addiction. In medicine today we have dismal success rates unfortunately because most in the medical profession are only dealing with parts of the individual. They are dealing with the physical, they’re dealing with the psychological, but they are forgetting the spiritual.

Yeah I think I want to see that guy's license to practice medicine.

The whole program is broken down into very strict schedule of prayer, eating, prayer, working, prayer, sleeping, and of course prayer.

Just in case anybody confuses the program with an actual medically approved rehabilitation program there is this disclaimer.

No doctor on site, no doctor insight, and apparently no doctor in sight of the facility.

In other words there is NOTHING here that is going to help Josh Duggar with what is turning out to be a rather powerful sexual dysfunction.

So by a show of hands, how many of you are surprised?

As with everything else touched by, operated by, and believed in by biblethumpers, THIS IS BULLSHIT.

West Virginia high school student, armed, takes classroom hostage. Because no teachers were armed, the incident ended peacefully with no loss of life

Courtesy of International Business Times:

Police in West Virginia took a 14-year-old boy in custody Tuesday for holding hostage a class of 29 students and a teacher at gunpoint in a high school. The boy surrendered following negotiations with police.

The incident occurred at Philip Barbour High School in the state’s north-central Barbour County around 1 p.m. and no injuries were reported. The boy, armed with a pistol, took hostage a classroom at the school's second floor, the state police said, in a Facebook statement.

Barbour County Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Woofter told the Associated Press (AP) that students entering for the next class were asked to leave when they opened the door of the classroom where the teen was holding the hostages. These students alerted another teacher, who then informed school officials about the situation. An assistant principal then asked for the police to be alerted, Woofter said.

The school was placed on lock-down and police began negotiating with the teen:

“After initial negotiations, the suspect agreed to release all of the hostages. After further negotiations, the suspect put the gun down and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident,” the police said in the statement.

Apparently the boy's pastor played a part in getting him to put down the gun:

Ultimately, the boy's pastor convinced the boy to drop the gun and walk away. The pastor said his daughter is a senior at the school, and she had recently stepped in when she saw the boy being bullied.

"He's a child who's been bullied to the point where he just snapped," said Pastor Howard Swick with Haven of Hope Ministry in Philippi. "And I'm watching this 14-year-old child with a gun, crying. He looked completely hopeless and didn't know what to do, and realized he had taken this farther than he had ever wanted to go. He didn't know how to retreat."

So essentially here was a potentially dangerous situation involving a handgun.

No armed, poorly-trained individuals in the school confronted him.

The police were called.

And ultimately there was no loss of life.

Imagine how differently that might have played out if this were one of those schools that allowed armed teachers to roam the halls.

The studies cited as disproving global warming were studied and found to be seriously lacking

Republicans and Teabaggers cite a few off-the-wall studies in their attempts to prove global climate change is not happening.  The 38 most prominent studies were reviewed and found to be seriously lacking in facts and in scientific rigor.

The studies weren’t selected randomly — according to lead author Rasmus Benestad, the studies selected were highly visible contrarian studies that had all arrived at a different conclusion than consensus climate studies. The question the researchers wanted to know was — why?

...

The most common mistake shared by the contrarian studies was cherry picking, in which studies ignored data or contextual information that did not support the study’s ultimate conclusions. In a piece for the Guardian, study co-author Dana Nuccitelli cited one particular contrarian study that supported the idea that moon and solar cycles affect the Earth’s climate. When the group tried to replicate that study’s findings for the paper, they found that the study’s model only worked for the particular 4,000-year cycle that the study looked at.

...

The researchers also found that a number of the contrarian studies simply ignored the laws of physics. For example, in 2007 and 2010 papers, Ferenc Miskolczi argued that the greenhouse effect had become saturated, a theory that had been disproved in the early 1900s.

...

In other cases, the authors found, researchers would include extra parameters not based in the laws of physics to make a model fit their conclusion.

...

The mistakes also seemed to be particularly present in contrarian studies, Nuccitelli wrote.

Here's a link to the paper.

Facts the GOP does not want you to see

Will the GOP now stop this bullshit about them being the party of "family values?"

posing in 2000 for a photo spread in British GQ

Now that we have a Republican frontrunner who is an infamous serial adulterer and whose current wife once posed nude for a magazine in his private jet, can we say that the GOP’s 35-year masquerade as the party of “family values” is officially over?

Imagine for a moment that photos had emerged of a wife of a past Republican frontrunner — Ann Romney or Cindy McCain, for example — supine on a fur rug in the altogether. Their husbands’ campaigns would have been over faster than Rick Perry could say “Oops.” But this is Teflon Don, so even evangelicals are apparently okay with what they’d otherwise consider a sinful display.

And then there is the candidate himself. Just 14 years after impeaching Pres. Clinton over a sex lie in civil lawsuit, the Republicans are now giving majority support to a notorious philanderer who openly carried on an affair with wife number two while still married to wife number one, and may have started seeing number three (the one who posed nude) while still married to number two.

Why do schools expell black students at MUCH higher rates than white students -- especially schools in South?

A new study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania finds yet more evidence (as if we needed any more!) that racism is far from dead in the United States of America, and certainly not in the South. Check this out:
Nationally, 1.2 million Black students were suspended from K-12 public schools in a single academic year - 55% of those suspensions occurred in 13 Southern states. Districts in the South also were responsible for 50% of Black student expulsions from public schools in the United States...
In 132 Southern school districts, Blacks were disproportionately suspended at rates five times or higher than their representation in the student population.
Here in Virginia, it's not good either, as "Blacks were 24% of students in school districts across the state, but comprised 51% of suspensions and 41% of expulsions." In terms of "disproportionate impact," the report finds that "Botetourt County Public Schools, Falls Church City Public Schools, Lexington City Public Schools, Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, and Rappahannock County Public Schools are among [Virginia school] districts in which suspensions most disproportionately affected Black students." For instance, Botetourt's "disproportionate impact" score in the 2011-2012 school year was 4.3x, while Falls Church's was 3.8x. Others that jumped out at me were several jurisdictions, such as Fairfax County (3.0x), Loudoun County (3.0x) and Arlington County (2.8x), which trend "blue" politically but still show an unacceptably high ratio of African-American students suspended or expelled relative to their population.

So what's causing this disparity? According to the authors of the study, it's exactly what you'd think:
"The findings in our report point to the residual effects of Jim Crow, slavery, and unequal schooling," Harper said. "They are further explained by poverty trends, structural inequities in the education workforce, and a longstanding history of racial injustice that cyclically reproduces itself, especially across these 13 Southern states."
What's particularly unacceptable about this situation is this:
Suspensions and expulsions can carry life-changing consequences for children. They impact academic performance and disrupt pathways to college, but also how a school and community perceive a student.
"It could take years to process through the trauma and stigma of being deemed a problem-that you're not responsible, not serious," Smith said. "Teachers and district leaders are signaling that you're not worthy enough for us to invest in."
The bottom line is that this situation is sadly unsurprising, yet completely unacceptable, and it needs to change ASAP, just as the disproportionate shootings of African Americans by police needs to change ASAP, and just as the disproportionate application of severe punishments (up to and including the death penalty) towards African Americans needs to change ASAP.

Of course, sadly, no one expects anything to change.  Especially considering the fact that Republicans control school boards, city councils,  and county boards of supervisors in most of the guilty areas.

Global Ponzi scheme about to implode

For decades now "conservative" governments in the US and abroad have been steadily destroying the middle class and working people with policies that enrich the top 1% of the population while causing wages to stagnate; shipping jobs to the lowest-paying countries;  and blocking opportunities for workers and middle class to climb the economic ladder.

It's now about to come crashing down.

Asian stock markets opened Monday with another sharp selloff. As of this writing, China’s Shanghai Composite index had dropped by over 8 percent and Japan’s Nikkei, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Australia’s All Ordinaries were all down by more than 3 percent. China’s central bank was preparing another round of cash infusions into the country’s financial markets.
The global panic, which has wiped out over a trillion dollars in stock values in the US alone, has shattered the claim that the US and world economies are in the midst of an economic recovery.

Prompted by decelerating economic growth in China, a collapse of financial markets and currencies in the so-called emerging market countries, and a continuing fall in the price of oil and other commodities, the plunge in stock prices is an expression not simply of passing conditions, but rather the inability of governments and central banks to address the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist system that led to the Wall Street crash and recession of 2008–2009.

What appears to be coming to an end is the period when massive infusions of cash by central banks into the financial markets, combined with a ruthless assault on the living standards of the international working class, could paper over the systemic character of the crisis and produce a boom in stock prices, corporate profits and the wealth of the financial aristocracy—even as the real economy continued to stagnate.
 .  .  .
An article published Sunday in the New York Times (“Investors Race To Escape Risk In Global Bonds”) sheds light on a significant factor behind the crisis atmosphere on global markets. The Times explains that some of the biggest bond mutual funds based in the US, including BlackRock, Franklin Templeton and Pimco, are massively invested in emerging market government bonds whose values are now collapsing.

The article raises the very real possibility that one or more of these firms could be bankrupted by demands from investors for the return of their cash, under conditions where the firms cannot offload their emerging market bonds and meet these demands. Such an event would be comparable to, if not worse than, the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.

Of course, what is happening here is simple:  The second shoe is dropping.  Anyone with any sense said that if we didn't fix the economic problems from the last crash, if we didn't rein in the out of control banks and corrupt Wall Street, it would happen again. Some people predicted it to come near the end of Obama's term.
Nothing was done to prevent another crash except to pump money to the monied. This kept the rich safe, temporarily. And we called it a recovery. But nothing was done to keep the banksters and the uber rich from doing it again. So they did.   Will we bail them out again?  Probably so.

NEWS FLASH!!! States with more guns have more cops killed by guns.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

Researchers found that states such as Montana, Arkansas, Alabama and Idaho, which have the highest rates of state-registered private gun ownership, also have the highest rates of homicide of law enforcement officers. States including Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey experience some of the lowest rates of both police officers killed and gun ownership.
“States should consider methods for reducing firearm ownership as a way to reduce occupational deaths of law enforcement officers,” was the blunt advice from the research paper published online on Thursday by the American Journal of Public Health.
Researchers studied the 782 homicides of police officers between 1996 and 2010 and gun ownership rates state by state using information from the FBI and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“If we’re interested in protecting police officers, we need to look at what’s killing them, and it’s guns. We know that 92% of police officers killed in the line of duty are killed by guns, three-quarters of which are handguns,” said David Swedler, lead researcher and an assistant professor of environmental and occupational health sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health.

States with higher rates of gun ownership have higher rates of cops killed by guns.  Well, am I ever shocked and surprised.

One of Rush Limbaugh's original affiliates drops him because of his "toxic brand"

California's KOWL has dropped Rush Limbaugh's radio show from its lineup. Describing the station as "one of the original Rush Limbaugh affiliates," the announcement release emphasized that the decision was based exclusively on "economic reasons," citing Limbaugh's "toxic brand."
The release elaborated on the economic reasons: "And now the free market has spoken. Rush has repelled local, regional, and national advertisers from KOWL costing the stations thousands of dollars in advertisers." It went on to state that "advertisers would rather just avoid the whole station then take the risk of being associated with Rush's increasingly toxic brand."

KOWL's explanation for dropping Limbaugh's show is very similar to reasons offered by Boston's WRKO and Indianapolis' WIBC, which both recently dropped Limbaugh from their lineups.

If you do not vote, the people pictured below will choose your local, state, and federal officials.

One of Rush Limbaugh's "original affiliates" drops him because of his "toxic brand."

Rush has repelled local, regional, and national advertisers from KOWL costing the stations [sic] thousands of dollars in advertisers." It went on to state that "advertisers would rather just avoid the whole station then [sic] take the risk of being associated with Rush's increasingly toxic brand."

KOWL's explanation for dropping Limbaugh's show is very similar to reasons offered by Boston's WRKO and Indianapolis' WIBC, which both recently dropped Limbaugh from their lineups.
The commercial viability of Limbaugh's show has suffered since 2012 following Limbaugh's prolonged attack on then-law student Sandra Fluke. That attack and resulting firestorm led advertisers to recognize that Limbaugh's volatility and brand were bad for business. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported on the industry-wide damage Limbaugh is causing. Limbaugh's toxicity is so severe that it has cost radio stations millions of dollars in lost ad revenue and contributed to dramatic reductions in advertising rates for talk radio as a whole.

KOWL Station Manager Steve Harness offered some behind-the-scenes insight and touched on the additional problem of Limbaugh's syndicator fees (which at this point adds injury to injury by having radio stations that are losing money due to Limbaugh also pay him for the disservice of losing them money), explaining in the statement:
"I spent a lot of time negotiating directly with Limbaugh's syndicator. I told them that we didn't want to lose his show, but that we couldn't pay him a fee in addition to him losing us money repelling advertisers and they refused to drop the monthly free. Ironically, they lost the fee anyway and a long-time affiliate."
Indeed. From the initial days after the Fluke controversy, Limbaugh and the team around him have shown little regard for the damage to the industry Limbaugh caused. In the first few days, Limbaugh resisted apologizing, which further inflamed the controversy -- eventually only apologizing for two but remaining steadfast in refusing to apologize for the other 44 personal attacks he had lobbed. Subsequently, he continued to engage in the same kinds of indecency and vitriol that ignited the controversy in the first place. This only served to emphasize Limbaugh's volatility and calcify the recognition that Limbaugh is bad for business.

Advertisers continue to leave and stay away thanks to a dedicated group of independent organizers in the Flush Rush and #StopRush communities. Their participation matters and is having a big effect.

Trust us, open-carry activists are really, really good people. Right??

Climate change nightmares already are here -- Republicans throw snowballs

Historians may look to 2015 as the year when shit really started hitting the fan. Some snapshots: In just the past few months, record-setting heat waves in Pakistan and India each killed more than 1,000 people. In Washington state's Olympic National Park, the rainforest caught fire for the first time in living memory. London reached 98 degrees Fahrenheit during the hottest July day ever recorded in the U.K.; The Guardian briefly had to pause its live blog of the heat wave because its computer servers overheated. In California, suffering from its worst drought in a millennium, a 50-acre brush fire swelled seventyfold in a matter of hours, jumping across the I-15 freeway during rush-hour traffic. Then, a few days later, the region was pounded by intense, virtually unheard-of summer rains. Puerto Rico is under its strictest water rationing in history as a monster El NiƱo forms in the tropical Pacific Ocean, shifting weather patterns worldwide.

...sea levels could rise 10 times faster than previously predicted: 10 feet by 2065. The authors included this chilling warning: If emissions aren't cut, "We conclude that multi-meter sea-level rise would become practically unavoidable. Social disruption and economic consequences of such large sea-level rise could be devastating. It is not difficult to imagine that conflicts arising from forced migrations and economic collapse might make the planet ungovernable, threatening the fabric of civilization...."

So far, dead zones have remained mostly close to the coasts, but in the 21st century, deep-ocean dead zones could become common. These low-oxygen regions could gradually expand in size — potentially thousands of miles across — which would force fish, whales, pretty much everything upward. If this were to occur, large sections of the temperate deep oceans would suffer should the oxygen-free layer grow so pronounced that it stratifies, pushing surface ocean warming into overdrive and hindering upwelling of cooler, nutrient-rich deeper water.

...Enhanced evaporation from the warmer oceans will create heavier downpours, perhaps destabilizing the root systems of forests, and accelerated runoff will pour more excess nutrients into coastal areas, further enhancing dead zones. In the past year, downpours have broken records in Long Island, Phoenix, Detroit, Baltimore, Houston and Pensacola, Florida.

Evidence for the above scenario comes in large part from our best understanding of what happened 250 million years ago, during the "Great Dying," when more than 90 percent of all oceanic species perished after a pulse of carbon dioxide and methane from land-based sources began a period of profound climate change. The conditions that triggered "Great Dying" took hundreds of thousands of years to develop. But humans have been emitting carbon dioxide at a much quicker rate, so the current mass extinction only took 100 years or so to kick-start.

Call the wahhhmbluance -- poor Donald Trump's feelings are hurt!!!

Despite believing that he “won” the inaugural 2016 GOP presidential debate in Cleveland Thursday night, frontrunner businessman Donald Trump walked away feeling the Fox News debate moderators had been unduly harsh in their questioning of him, saving most of his ire for host Megyn Kelly who put him on the spot for his overt sexism.

Kelly hit Trump hard with her first question, asking, “You’ve called women you don’t like, ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs,’ and ‘disgusting animals…'” before being interrupted by Trump.

“Only Rosie O’Donnell,” Trump smirked, prompting applause and laughter from the crowd.

“No it wasn’t,” she replied. “For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell. Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks. You once told a contestant on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?”

Trump brushed her off, saying he didn’t have “time for political correctness,” adding, “And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time either.”

Again and again the moderators, including Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, pressed Trump for tough answers –including whether he would pledge to run as a third party candidate — only for him to parry with his patented bombast.

After the debate he told assembled reporters, “The questions to me were far tougher, and that I — supposedly, according to what everyone’s telling me, I won the debate, according to the call-ins and everything. But the questions to me were not nice, I didn’t think they were appropriate, and I think Megyn behaved very badly personally,” reported Buzzfeed.

Trump called Kelly’s question “unfair,” but said that he would not be taking it up with her boss, Roger Ailes.

On Twitter, Trump’s outspoken attorney Michael Cohen raged against the Fox machine — including the after-debate voter panel discussion hosted by pollster Frank Luntz — tweeting: “A total setup by @FrankLuntz and #FOXNEWSDEBATE to try to lower #Trump2016 high poll numbers. American people will not fall for your tricks.”

Sarah Palin's SarahPAC is nearly bankrupt; likely will go under within 6 months

Here is the entire SarahPAC financial report for the period 1 Jan - 30 June 2015.

As of January 1 they had $825,555.95 cash on hand.

Donations from Jan 1-Jun 30:  $489,813.81.

Money spent from January 1-June 30- $753,232.84.

Which means over a six month period SarahPAC actually spent $417,490.70 more than they made in donations. So they spent almost twice as much as they brought in.

Only $25000 to candidates. Yet, Sarah tells us in her Facebook postings if you'll send her $15, she'll defund Planned Parenthood while, for $20, she'll kill the Iran nuclear deal.
Here are some more expenditures:
$230,250 on consultants, including $80,500 to longtime aide and PAC treasurer Timothy Crawford

$139,932 on direct mail, produced by conservative fundraising firm HSP Direct
$128,482 on postage, printing, and related supplies
$82,213 on travel and accommodations, including airfare, hotels, car and SUV rentals, travel agents, and taxis. The Waldorf Astoria in New York City ($4,562) and Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas ($797) were two particularly pricy line items. The $3,854 SarahPAC paid a New York–based limousine company came on Feb. 19, right after Palin appeared at the staging of Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special, where she sat in the audience next to musician Taylor Swift.
$16061.54 was spent on a charter flight to Las Vegas for Bristol and Sarah on January 21.
$48,000 on speech writing, mostly to Aries Petra Consulting, a small limited liability company registered in Virginia and based in Los Angeles
$37,354 on Internet fundraising through Austin, Texas–based Harris Media LLC, which works for numerous conservative politicians.
Every report her donations keep dropping, at this rate SarahPac will be broke by mid 2016.  Which means she will declare as a write in candidate.

THIS is why rightwingers don't want gays in the military

A would-be gay-basher got more than he bargained for when the two men he attacked in a New York City bodega turned out to be trained graduates of the U.S. military academy at West Point.

According to the New York Daily News, West Point graduates and husbands Daniel and Larry Lennox-Choate were shopping at a bodega in SoHo when a man spewing antigay epithets rushed up and punched Daniel in the face.

Larry Lennox-Choate wrote on Facebook that he leapt to his husband’s defense and the assailant “left covered in his own blood with his tail between his legs.”

“I handled the situation and tossed him in the street like the coward loser he is,” the Facebook post continued. “The hate crimes division of the NYPD is on the case and we have full faith a positive outcome will follow.”

“We refuse to be victims and are thankful we can defend ourselves, but are saddened by the fact that idiots like this guy might not pick two guys who went through Plebe Boxing next time,” he concluded.

The couple graduated from West Point in the classes of 2007 and 2009 and were married in 2013.

And that, folks, is why rightwingers don't want gays in the military -- I mean, teach a few gay men and women how to defend themselves and the next thing you know, they'll start kicking rightwing ass right and left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Can't have that, can we!!!!!   And God only knows what would happen if a few gay people owned guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas and Alabama State Boards of Education now under control of home-schooled evangelical rightwing "christians" -- let the stupid begin!!

Someone who is qualified for a job is generally expected to have sufficient capacity, passion, knowledge, experience and skill that matches or suits the position they seek and makes them eligible for an office or position. In fact, qualification can be thought of as denoting fitness for a job through the fulfillment of necessary conditions such as education, training, and a high degree of experience in the appropriate discipline. It is obvious that the owner of a professional sports franchise, say a National Football League team, would only hire a hair-stylist who detests, and has never played, the game of football as a general manager and head coach if they wanted their team to fail miserably. That is an absurd idea, but it is precisely what two religious Republican governors who want to decimate their state’s public education system did in appointing evangelical anti-public education fanatics to run their state’s public school systems.

There is a predilection among Republican governors devoted to a theocratic America to transfer taxpayer money set aside for public schools to private evangelical madrassas to both keep their residents ignorant and indoctrinate them in neo-Christian dogmata and superstition. This week, Alabama Republican Governor Robert Bentley followed Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s lead and appointed a fiercely anti-public school Christian fundamentalist to lead the Alabama Board of Education to transform the state’s public education system into a 12-year Christian indoctrination camp for Alabama children. But, one might say, at least the Alabama governor chose an evangelical freak who has passion, knowledge, and at least a decade of experience in public education that qualifies him to control the state’s public education system, but that is not the case.

The 28-year old fundamentalist Christian, Matthew Brown, who is running Alabama’s public school system is a highway designer who attended a Christian college. He has never set foot in or attended a public school in his evangelical life. He also believes public education is an abomination before his god and says he will never allow his children to get near a public school. Brown is also renown for his illegal campaign to defund Alabama’s public education system; what Alabama governor Bentley considers excellent qualifications to run the Board of Education. According to Bentley, the leader of the Board of Education’s fundamentalist Christian ‘education’ and hatred of public schools is consistent with the Republican Party’s political philosophy that will allow him to “bring a unique perspective to the Board of Education.” Last year, the new Education leader was successful in a drive to cut education funding and defeat an education improvement tax to purposely put a monumental strain on Alabama’s education resources. Brown also fits nicely with Republican philosophy because according to Alabama’s Secretary of State, he violated several provisions of the state’s Fair Campaign Practices Act like any proper and highly motivated evangelical Republican.

Regardless Brown’s record of religious bias against the public education system, and against the advice of his staff and state education leaders, Governor Bentley appointed the unqualified, inexperienced, openly hostile 28-year-old in charge of public education because “Brown is a young man after Bentley’s own heart.” Since being elected in 2010, Bentley has signed legislation transferring over $30 million a year away from public schools to private evangelical school voucher programs. Bentley signed another law that allows private religious charter schools to open across Alabama and gave them sole authority to approve new religious charter schools over the objection of local school boards. Plus, despite his new Education chief has no education experience except attending a Christian college, Bentley is enamored with Brown because “he believes in Jesus.” That “Jesus qualified” designation is tantamount to allowing an fourth grader to perform brain surgery because they saw a microscope on television, but in Alabama and Texas belief in Jesus qualifies one to lead the public schools.

The new head of Texas Education Department is as unqualified as Brown with stellar qualifications amounting to being a Christian fundamentalist who home-schooled her children in the biblical arts. Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed the Christian home-school mom and (Jerry Fallwell’s) Liberty University graduate Donna Bahorich because her experience with public schools is abhorring public education not founded on bible superstition. Apparently, Abbott felt the need to replace former evangelical creationist Don McLeroy because he failed to completely abolish science education in Texas schools. He did, however, approve textbooks teaching that biblical Moses helped the Founding Fathers write the U.S. Constitution along with several other gems of Christian revisionisms regarding the role of the bible in America’s founding and history.

The president of the Texas Freedom Network, Kathy Miller said that “If Gov. Abbott wanted to demonstrate that he won’t continue his predecessors’ efforts to politicize and undermine our state’s public schools, this appointment falls far short. This is the person who’s ultimately responsible for decisions that’ll affect children across the state. She’s someone who doesn’t understand science or history and whose own background has little to do with education policy. The governor appointed an ideologue that guarantees the board will continue to put culture war agendas ahead of educating more than 5 million Texas kids.”

Even a prominent Republican from Mt. Pleasanton who is also on the state school board, Thomas Ratliff, was critical of Abbot’s appointment and condemned the choice of a fundamentalist with absolutely no experience whatsoever in public education. Ratliff said, “Public school isn’t for everybody, but when 94-percent of our students in Texas attend public schools I think it ought to be a baseline requirement that the chair of the State Board of Education have at least some experience in that realm, as a parent, teacher, something.”

One pundit summed up Abbott’s choice to lead the state’s Education system by saying, “What did you expect Abbott to do? Appoint someone who actually knows what he or she is doing? He doesn’t have that in him. He’d rather screw over millions of teenagers trying to get an education comparable to what kids get in other more competitive states than upset his religious base.” Abbott has quickly established a record of not standing up to his “base” whether they are anti-science and anti-education religious fanatics or conspiracy-freaks afraid that President Obama is sending the United States military to overthrow and conquer Texas.

Both Abbott’s and Bentley’s appointments of highly unqualified religious fanatics with no experience in public education is founded on their desire to abolish public schools and replace them with a taxpayer-funded evangelical madrassa system; a two-fold assault on America. First, misappropriating taxpayer dollars for biblical instruction is patently unconstitutional, and second, it is another tactic to wipe out America’s public education system as part of their crusade toward government by theocracy. A crusade, by the way, that most in government are terrified of challenging because god, Jesus, and bible apparently supersede the U.S. Constitution, or government officials would put a stop to it.
In Texas’ case, an incompetent religious fanatic as Board of Education chairperson is a certain means of perpetuating the indoctrination of 5 million children every year to deny history and science and remain as ignorant and stupid as the current generation. Republicans thrive on perpetuating incompetence and ignorance in their crusade to keep Americans in poverty because children without an education are doomed to low-wage jobs. Even Republicans are well-aware that employers looking for prospective employees competent in superstition and archaic mythos are few and far between; except in Texas and Alabama where inexperience and belief in fairy tales will get one appointed head of the state Board of Education.

Heritage, not hate -- well, actually, it's STUPID and hate

Today the Old Redneck was in Atlanta, Georgia.  At nearby Stone Mountain, Georgia, a "Confederate flag rally" was held complete with a few hundred rednecks waving Confederate flags, some carrying AR-15's.

Later, after the rally, I encountered five of these clowns and got into a discussion with them about their "heritage."  I asked these five people four simple questions -- three men, two women, all wearing Confederate flag T-shirts, all carrying Confederate flags, one carrying an AR-15.  The questions I asked them were:

1.  What were the dates of the Civil War -- the year it started, the year it ended?
2.  What was the name of the nation formed by the states that seceded from the Union?
3.  How many states seceded?
4.  Who was the president of the nation formed by the states that seceded?

NOT ONE OF THESE SOUTHERN PATRIOTS COULD ANSWER ONE OF THESE QUESTIONS.  NOT ONE OF THESE FIVE CONFEDERATE-FLAG-WAVING SOUTHERN PATRIOTS COULD ANSWER EVEN ONE OF THESE SIMPLE QUESTIONS.

For those of you who are just as ignorant, here are the answers:

1.  1861 - 1865
2.  The Confederate States of America.
3.  Eleven
4.  Jefferson Davis
